The base moulding is the board that runs along the bottom or “base” of the interior wall. It is used to cover the gaps in the joint where the floor and wall meet.
Base caps sit on top of, and are used to “cap” the base boards. Resulting in a much more detailed and intricate look. Panel moulds have a similar purpose, but the difference lies in where they are located on the wall. They are decorative in nature and typically are arranged in a way to give the illusion that the wall consists of individual panels.
